Killarney RoseKillarney Rose
6 Year Old Filly

Killarney Rose was purchased out of the April OBS sale of two year olds in training in Ocala, Florida. She was the day three sales topper which speaks to her quality, breeding and class. She had one of the best works at the sale breezing in 10 and 2/5ths but gathering steam in the gallop out and doing it all with little urging and totally within herself. She was a picture of consistency and calm each of the numerous times we visited her over the course of the sale. A February foal she should, if all goes well be shipped from Dominic to Christophe Clement in May and begin training for a Saratoga debut.

Killarney Rose is by the up and coming sire Ghostzapper and out of the A.P. Indy mare Koko Pop. Her second dam Got Koko was a multiple graded stakes winner of $960,000. Ghostzapper won the Breeders Cup Classic in 2004 and won in excess of $3.4 BB in his stellar racing career.

Audrey and Tracey Price raised Killarney Rose since purchasing her at the Kentucky yearling sale last year and have done an exemplary job. This filly has every thing we are looking for to be a stakes racehorse and eventually a foundation broodmare. Dominic Brennan again helped us select our stock including Killarney Rose at the Ocala sale.

Dec 31
Killarney Rose has arrived at OJ's barn in California and has begun prepping for her first California start.

Oct 24

Killarney Rose is heading west. She will eventually be bred to Northern Indy but will get a chance at Golden Gate Fields at the allowance level.

Look forward to seeing this good looking Ghostzapper mare when she arrives to OJ's barn.

October 21
Killarney Rose did not take to the off track at Keeneland yesterday and essentially stopped. She came back to the barn fine and looked great thsi morning. We will give her another try agaisnt softer company, yet again, and see if she still wants to race. It could be she is at the end of the line. Dissapointing result for this handsome daughter of Ghostzapper.

October 10
Killarney Rose was scratched from her race at Mountaineer as heavy rains forced the race off the turf. She will be reentered for a race at Keeneland next week.

Oct 3
Coming off two successive 2nd place finihes Killarney Rose will try for th ewin in a seven-furlong turf race at Mountaineer on Saturday. Once again, she looks to be one of the favourites breaking from gate 2 under jockey Edgar Paucar. PPs for the race an be found here.

Sep 22
Killarney Rose finished a game second in Sundays Allowance at Mountaineer although she couldn't get to the winner Steelaway Lady over the last quarter mile. Thiose two runners finished 13 lengths in front of the third place finisher. Two consecutive seconds for Killarney. Hopefully she notches a much need win for the stable next time out. A chart of the race can be found above.

Sep 14
After a 2nd and a 4th in August, Killarney Rose has been entered in a 1 Mile 70 Yard Allowance on the turf this Sunday September 18th at Mountaineer Race Track. She will be one of the favourites and ridden by leading Mountaineer jockey Deshawn Parker. PP's for the race can be found here.

July 4
Killarney Rose finished 5th beaten by 4 lengths in Friday's turf claimer at Monmouth. She will van Wednesday to join Tevis McCauley in Kentucky. Tevis is training Amaranth as well. We hope Killarney Rose will revert to last summers form in her new environment. A chart of the race can be found above.

June 26
Killarney Rose has been entered in Friday's turf claiming race at Monmouth Park on the Jersey Shore. She drew post 8 of 9 and will be ridden by top Jersey jockey Joe Bravo. When the morning line comes out later in the week, we assume Killarney Rose will be first or second favourite in what should be a slightly lesser level of competition than she has been up against lately. Past Performances for the race can be found here.

May 31
Killarney Rose stalked the pace throughout but never threatened on the turf at Belmont Sunday. We will look for an easier spot by dropping her in class and looking for a race likley at Monmouth in the coming weeks. A chart of the race can be found above.

May 28
Killarney Rose has drawn post 3 of 8 for tommorow's 4th race at Belmont Park in New York. Jockey Kendric Karamouche will ride our 5 year old mare. We think she fits better at a slightly lower level than this but want to give her a run. If she can hang on down the stretch a top 3 position is possible. Wealth Creation will be favoured on the outside. Killarney Rose is 5-1 on the morning line. Past Performances for the race can be found here.

May 6
Killarney Rose displayed a lack of a closing kick today in the slop at Belmont Park. We will cut her some slack as this was her first race back .She managed to place third and will have to fight another day. Her best runs have been at Saratoga and we are hopeful she will gear up for a productive summer campaign at the Spa. A chart of the race can be found above.

April 27
Killarney Rose may make her return to the races this Saturday at Belmont. She has been entered Main Track Only which means she will only race if the race is washed off of the turf course. Belmont is expecting some rain but it looks like the races are likely to stay onthe turf. Time will tell.

It is a good sign that she is entered and if this race doesn't go there should be a spot for her over the next couple of weeks.

November 17
We decided to send Killarney Rose down to Florida for a month freshening in Ocala. She will then train at Payson Park and hopefully start backup at Gulfstream in February. We decided to try and steal a purse at Aqueduct last weekend before sending her on vacation. She did not run well back on such short notice but was still able to catch a part of the purse and help pay for her vacation. A chart of the race can be found above.

November 8
It doesn't get any easier for Highland Yard today as Killarney Rose has drawn into a tough bunch of fillies in a Starter Allowance at Aqueduct. She will break from Post 3 of 8 in todays one mile race on the turf. Top jockey Joel Rosario gets the mount. Past Performances for the race can be found here.

October 1
We decided to run Killarney Rose today even though the race came off her preffered Turf surface due to heavy rains in the New York area. It turned out well as four horses were scratched as a result of the surface change and a meager five horse field was left. Jockey Rosario rated her well on the inside and she actually took the lead in the early stretch before being passed by a dirt horse to end up second. Not a bad result as she picked up a pay cheque and saves the non-winners of two condiition for later in the month. A chart of the race can be found above.

September 29
Killarney Rose has been deemed luke warm favoutie at 5/2 for Thursday's 1 Mile turf claiming race at Belmont Park. Jockey Joel Rosario who won with her two back gets the mount. With some rain expected in New York over the next couple of days we will have to wait and see if the race goes.

She has drawn post position 4 of 7 that are entered on the turf. Two other runners have been entered for the main dirt track only and will not run on the turf.  Past Performances for the race can be found here.

September 1
Killarney Rose had us up and ready to run to the winner's circle when nailed at the wire by Daisy Cutter in the 11th at Saratoga on Sunday. With replacement Hall of Fame jockey John Velasquez in the irons Killarney raced very well only to be caught late. Breaking from post seven she had to travel the first 1/2 mile 3 and 4 wide to secure a nice stalking position for the second half of the race.  Killarney got the first move and passed the front runners early in the stretch and looked to have every chance as they headed for the wire. Daisy Cutter who had a ground saving trip moved off the rail and rallied up to catch us in the final strides. A nice race for Killarney Rose to grab a piece of the purse. We will look for a similar race or a starter allowance at Belmont in three of four weeks time. A chart of the race can be found above.

August 19
Killarney Rose got the job done in impressive fashion to break her maiden on July 31st. Breaking well and ridden exceptionally by Joel Rosario, Killarney Rose split horses down the stretch to capture her first victory and the first ever victory for Highland Yard at Saratoga. A chart of the race can be found above.

July 6
Killarney Rose had a decent stalking position throughout the early stages but did not have the kcik needed to break her maiden at Belmont on Friday. She did have enough to dispatch the also runs and gather show honors at the 1 1/16th distance. She came out of the race okay and we anticipate a start, perhaps at a slightly longer distance at Saratoga in a few weeks time. She is a solid one pace filly and we are hopeful she will get the job done this summer. A chart of the race is found above.

June 29
Killarney Rose will kick off a huge nine days of racing for Highland Yard in a $40k Maiden at Belmont Park this Friday. She has drawn post 2 of 10 with veteran jockey Jose Lezcano aboard. On paper Killarney Rose looks the one to beat dropping down to this level. She has had injuries throughout her career including over a year layoff that prevented her from running as a three-year old. We are not sure how many races are left in her but she has had a nice 5 week layoff in advance of this one. We may eventually breed her to Northern Indy back in California if she does not get taken through the claim box. Lets hope she starts the week off right and gets her picture taken this Friday!

Past performances for the race can be found here.

May 23
Killarney Rose did not respond today at Churchill Downs and finished a dissapointing 6th after working with the front pack for the early going. She has yet to show she can overcome much and it is time to evaluate her future. A number of options are available none the ones we would have liked for her. We can drop her to the claiming ranks and see if she can get the elusive win but would risk losing her, keep trying at the Maiden Special Weight level at easier race tracks, put her for sale, or think about breeding her. We will sit back and see how she comes out of the race and make a decision. She is a strong good looking filly with a decent pedigree. A chart of the race can be found above.

May 21
Killarney Rose has drawn post 4 of 11 in Saturdays maiden special weight at Churchill Downs. Rafael Hernandez gets the mount and will try and guide Killarney Rose to her first victory. Killarney Rose closed very well last month at Tampa finishing 3rd but only beat by 1/2 length. She galluped out past the two ahead of her and gets another 1/8th of a mile in this 1 1/8th race on the turf. She has been installed 5/2 second favourite. The horse just inside Killarney in gate 3, "Cash in My Pocket" is the 2-1 favourite. Past performances for the race can be found here.

May 6
The race for Killarney Rose will not go at Gulfstream Park. We will ship her to Churchill with Christophe and look for a race at Churchill or Indiana Downs. We considered other options but think she will fit best at Churchill. She is well bred, looks great and we need to break her maiden.

April 8
Killarney Rose ran out of room in todays Maiden at Tampa Bay Downs. Bet down to 3/2 favourite, KR tracked the leading group for 6 furlongs before making a gradual move on the outside. Fourth by 4 lengths in the stretch she closed to just miss, finsihing third, half a length from the winner. KR went on to gallup out past them all. She was likely the best of this bunch but needed another furlong to get the nod. She will get another try in a few weeks and all signs point to her breaking her maiden in Florida. A chart of the race can be found above.

April 6
We have entered Killarney Rose for a one mile maiden special weight on the Turf at Tampa Bay downs for this Wedenesday. She has been training forwardly and fits well with this group of 10 fillies and mares. Killarney Rose has been installed as luke warm 3-1 favorite and will be ridden by Victor Lebron. She will need to run well but has every opportunity to win here. Past Perfomances for the race can be found here.

March 28
We are looking for a Maiden Special at Tampa Bay Downs for Killarney Rose. We anticipate one coming up in the early part of April and will await that race. K.R. has not shown to be of the top calibre that would be successful at the highest level at Belmont or Saratoga. As a result we will need to decide wether to campaign her on a less competitive circuit, breed her or sell her. She is a lovley strong looking mare and with a solid pedigree.

We will see what she can do at Tampa Bay and take it from there.

February 25
Killarney Rose showed only one pace in finishing a close up 5th in today's maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park. Breaking well and chasing the pace through out, she could not overcome a slight bump at the 3/16th pole and was passed by a cadre of horses in deep stretch. The bump resulted in the disqualification of the offender but it is unlikely KR would have held on for the win in any case. She will get another chance in three weeks time and we will see how it goes. A chart of the race can be found above.

February 21
Killarney Rose drew post position 7 of 8 for Wednesday's 1 1/16th mile maiden special weight on the Gulfstream Park turf course. The race came up a little light and K.R. should have a legit chance. Two of the horses in the race K.R. beat last time out. A well bred English import for Chad Brown "Casual Smile" has placed at both Newmarket and Ascot and maybe the morning line favourite with Killarney Rose just priced off of her. Past performances for the race can be found here.

February 5
A very solid comeback race for Killarney Rose. Despite a 16 month layoff, K.R. proved race ready by jumping right out of the gate into the lead in Sunday's maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park. She set the pace before being tackled by a eventual winner "Ramble" and a couple of others at the 3/8th poll and looked to be in trouble. She actually faded back a bit before re-rallying around the turn and holding on for third place at the wire. She came back fine from the race and should have got a lot out of it from a conditioning standpoint. Killarney Rose will be one of the favourites when she returns to the turf in a few weeks time. Good to see her back and healthy. A chart of the race can be found above.

January 29
Killarney Rose is finally going back to the races. After a combined layoff and rehab of 16 months Killarney Rose has been entered in Sunday's Maiden Special Weight at South Florida's Gulfstream Park. A field of 11 has been assembled for the 1 1/16ths mile run on the turf. Leading contenders will be the Tapit filly "Mumtaazah" and Graham Motion's "Place Card" third at the distance and condition last time out. K.R. has been training concistently and we are hopeful she will acquit herself well. A Highland Yard contingent will be in attendance and we are excited for the first race of the year for the blue and white gryphon.

Past Performances for the race can be found here.

December 20
K.R. has had three strong breezes at Payson Park since joining Christophe's stable from Kilbride a few weeks ago. At this rate, and if all goes well, we should see her long awaited return to the races in January at Gulfstream park in Florida. Hopefully this filly can begin to show some of the promise we had hoped for when purchased at OBS in April of 2013.

November 27
After a very long but successful rehabilitation, Killarney Rose is ready to go in full training. She has been galluping and even breezing a few times with Dominic in Ocala Florida for the last few months. Killarney Rose shipped to Christophe's Payson Park stable early in the week and looks much stronger according to Christophe. She will begin full training with an eye to a start at Gulfstream in January or February.

September 2
Killarney Rose has finished her long recovery and is jogging at Dominic Brennan's Kilbride stable. She look great and we have every hope she will   be sent to Christophe when he moves the string to Payson Park in Florida. If all goes as planned Killarney will get a start in December at Gulfstream Park. It will be great to see this athletic daughter of Ghostzapper at the races.

November 30
Killarney Rose's race didn't go due to a cancellation earlier in the week of a race card at Acqueduct due to weather. We are still hopeful the Maiden Turf race will go on Firday or Saturday of next week before Acqueduct Turf racing closes for the season. K.R. will breeze tomorrow morning and be ready for the race should it go. Fingers crossed as she is training very well.

November 25
Killarney Rose will make her much anticipated return to the races on Sunday December 1st in a route race over the turf at Acqueduct. K.R. breezed a bullet work Saturday at Belmont going 5 furlongs in 1 minute and 1/8th seconds. These high level maidens are alway tough and we expect no different here when entries are made Thursday morning. If the race is taken off the turf (which is very possible this time of year out east) we will likely scratch her for another day. Hope for good weather as a few Highland Yard hopeful will be at the races hoping for a Killarney Rose victory.

November 19
Killarney Rose breezed a solid 3 furlongs in 36 4/5ths seconds Saturday at Belmont. The work was 5th of 16 at the distance. Christiphe thought this was a good work and will target her for a Maiden Special Weight at Acqueduct by the end of the month or very early December. We are excited for her return to the races and better trip second time out.
Acqueduct is putting up large purses as a result of the attached casino and we hope to get a piece of that purse.

October 5
Killarney Rose breezed a solid 4 furlongs in 49 and 3/5ths at Belmont on Friday. She worked well and has recovered from the cut she received in her debut. We think she needs a surface change and as such will train her on the turf this week with the goal of running in a route maiden on the turf in late October.
She looks great and is very sound for her training.

September 24
Killarney Rose
finished 5th of 8 in her debut going a mile at Belmont Park. She broke well and stayed with the leaders for the first half mile before lagging and making up a bit of ground over the last furlong. She came back to the barn with a good size cut on the front of her leg which we think happened coming out of the gate. Hard to say wether it effected her performance but we are willing to cut her some slack first time out. She will recuperate from the laceration and likely try back at this elite level in a bout one months time. A chart of the race can be found above.

September 22
Killarney Rose will make her debut today! After the rain overnight in New York, the turf races today have been moved to the main (dirt) track which is curently rated "muddy". As a result Killarney Rose draws in to the race which is scheduled to post at 5:49 pm EDT. The only way I know to watch the races live from Belmont is to open an acoount on TVG or some other online wagering company with a live video feed.

Live Audio of the races at Belmont can be found at

September 21
Killarney Rose has been entered for "Main Track Only" in a Maiden Special Weight at Belmont for tomorrow. This entry is for the Turf race going a mile. Killarney Rose will only run if the race is taken off the turf due to rain or other factors that make the turf course unavailable. There is some rain forecast overnight at Belmont and we will need to await the determination of course condition until Sunday morning. If the race does go on the turf, Killarney Rose will be re-entered for a 7 furlong Maiden next Sunday September 29th. In any case the time is drawing near to see if her solid training over the last two months will pay off early in her debut. Up and coming jockey Irad Ortiz has been named to ride. Past performances for tomorrows race can be found here.

August 26
We are excited to report that the two fillies "Walk Close" and "Killarney Rose" fired the bullet at Belmont Park this morning working 3 furlongs from the gate handily in 36 and change. These were the fatest times of the nine at that distance. This is a week after they both worked a solid 4 furlongs over the same track. Everything seems to point to a debut at the upcoming Belmont meet. The third week of September remains a logical target. Trainer Clement informs that both fillies cam out of the work in good order.

August 10
We are very excited to report that both Killarney Rose and Walk Close has their first official timed breezes today. The two fillies worked together and went an identical 37 and 1/8ths seconds at Belmont Park in New York. These marked the bullet works of the day of the eight horses that went three furlongs. A very solid start for these young ones. Assuming they come out of the breeze well and continue to progress it certainly looks like a September start is in the cards.

July 22

Walk Close and Killarney Rose are on the move. The excitment is building as the two well bred two-year-olds are moving this week from Kildare Stables in Ocala up to the Belmont Park racing stables of Breeders Cup winning Trainer Christophe Clement. Christophe will get a good look at them over the next weeks and begin a plan to train them for a debut some time later in the summer or fall. Dominic is pleased with both of them and believes Killarney Rose is a little "more forward" at this point. This is not suprising as she was trained to breeze at the sale back in April. We look forward to their respective debuts at Saratoga or Belmont over the next couple of months.

June 22
KIllarney Rose and stablemate Walk Close breezed an easy 3 fulrongs at Oakridge training center
going in around 39 flat. They both are doing very well and will begin some extensive gate work this week with Dominic. The timetable is playing out such that Christophe will likely take them up to Saratoga or Belmont in 3 or 4 weeks time. Dominic will have them up to a half mile by then and Christophe should be able to carry right on with them pointing to  Saratoga debuts later in the summer. The excitement builds.

May 29
KIllarney Rose had her first breeze alongside Walk Close at Kilbride Stables this past weekend. Both fillies went "beautifully" and Dominic was very pleased with the one furlong work. They will both breeze 2 furlongs next weekend and will likley ship out to Christophe Clemente in new York soon thereafter.

May 22
KIllarney Rose has settled in at Kilbride Stables over the last few weeks and was given a little time to come down after the sale. She is scheduled to have her first breeze under Dominic's care later this week. It is likely Killarney Rose and Walk Close will move over to Christophe Clement in the next few weeks to begin training in earnest for a summer debut, likely at Saratoga. Our excitement is growing as these two year old fillies gain training momentum.
