Jerry's FeverJerry's Fever
Five Year Old Gelding

Jerry’s Fever was purchased by Highland Yard at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Calder Sale of Select 2 Year Old’s in Training. O.J. and I worked hard at this sale viewing over 60 head and vetting 8 horses before bidding on this Stormin Fever Colt. The colt breezed an 1/8th of a mile easily in 10 4/5ths seconds in the under tack show the day prior to the sale. A video of this work is linked below.

Stormin Fever is an up and coming sire by famed sire Storm Cat. Subsequent to our purchase, a Stormin Fever Colt was the second highest price sale at the Barrett’s Select Sale leading us to hope we may have got great value with Jerry.

Jerry’s Fever was flown from Calder to Los Angeles and vanned up to O.J.’s barn right after the sale and has been in training since. Jerry has had six official breezes to date and is likely to be the first starter to wear the Highland Yard silks.

Jerry’s Fever was named in honour of his mother Jerry Bomb and my father Jerry.

News

January 11
A day of wide ranging emotions for Highland Yard yesterday as Jerry was cliamed by Phoenix based trainer Jeffrey Metz out of the 9th race at Golden Gate Fields. Jerry, as usual, gave every effort to get the nod for 2nd place with Russell Baze aboard in a very fast 6 furlong race run in 1:10.15 sconds. This game can be tough and so it was for us as another trainer led Jerry back to his new stall and owner. We will keep a close eye on Jerry and wish the very best for him in his ongoing career. Jerry was one of our very first runners and has been in the money an astounding 20 of 26 races lifetime and is just shy of $100,000 in earnings. O.J. and I bought him at the Fasig Tipton 2 year old sale in Florida in 2010 and he has raced valiantly for us ever since. Farewell Jerry. A chart of the race yesterday can be found above.

January 9
The old warrior Jerry's Fever returns to action this Saturday at Golden Gate Fields. Hall of Fame Jockey Russell Baze gets the mount in the six furlong claiming race. Jerry's jockey in his last race, Juan Hernandez, has left Jerry to ride likely racetime favorite "Localsucess". Jerry will likley be second favorite in the field of eight. One thng is for sure Jerry will give every effort and has every chance to be in the money for the sixth time in a row. Past performances for the race can be found here.

December 13
Jerry's Fever beat an eleven horse field in yesterdays sprint claimer at Golden Gate Fields. Masterfully ridden by Juan Hernandez, Jerry was given a perfect stalking trip. Hernandez held a tight reign on Jerry early whilst the favorite "Stormin Kentucky" and two others dueld it out on the front end. Jerry was preserved to the 1/4 pole where he rallied smartly passing all in the stretch and lengthening his lead at the end to just under a length. Jerry picks up a check and a photo and went back to the barn the happy warrior that he is. We will give him a little time off and bring him back at a similar condition in the new year. A chart of the race can be found above.

December 9
Jerry's Fever has drawn post position 7 of 12 for Thursdays sprint claimer at Golden Gate Fields. We weren't expecting such a full field but you take what you can get. Jerry will likley be favored at post time given two straight second places finishes at this condition or higher. Hot jockey Juan hernandez again gets the mount and we can always count on a spiritied run by Jerry. We think he is set to win but second place would be no suprise. Past performances for the race can be found here.

November 30
What else is new! Jerry finished 2nd in the claiming sprint at Golden Gate Fields on Thanksgiving Day. Going off as second favorite, Jerry beat the favorite Baze/Morey entry but succumbed to a late outisde bid by 6 to 1 shot JT Quick. This was Jerry's 18th in the money performance of 24 life time starts. As O.J. said, "if only Northern Indy had Jerry's heart ......". Jerry will be entered back for December 12th sprint against non-winners in 2013 and will likely be favored in that race. Of course a betting man would bet on Jerry to place in that or any other race. Nice run Jerry.

November 25
The warrior gets set to return to the starting gate on Thanksgiving Day Thursday at Golden Gate Fields. We watched him breeze yesterday and he looks great. Jerry should be ready to strike in a tough field second race back after his layoff. Jerry will need to beat the Baze/Morey entry that beat him last time out by a neck, in that race Jerry broke from the 9th post this time he gets the much more advantageous Post 4. A crew of us will be there to cheer Jerry on. Past performances for the race can be found here.

November 19
Jerry had a solid breeze over the weekend going 4 furlongs in 46 and 3/5ths 7th of 39 at that distance. Off his close second place finish a couple of weeks ago we will enter him back at a slightly harder claiming level for a race by the end of the month.

November 7
Jerry's Fever ran a strong second in his first race since April. If not for a superb ride and easy tripo on the inside for the favorite it looked like Jerry had this one. Caught in the last fews strides for the win, Jerry competed very well and placed in the money as is his form. Jerry came out of the race well and will be very live at this level next time out. A chart of the race can be found above.

October 31
Jerry's Fever has been installed as the 5/2 second favourite in the field of 9 for tommorow's claiming sprint at Golden Gate Fields.
Past performances for the race can be found here. We will have a contingent cheering barn favourite Jerry on tomorrow at GGF.

October 27
Jerry's Fever drew post position 9 of 9 for Friday's 5 furlong sprint at Golden Gate Fields. Jerry looks like his old self and we are confident he will give his usual effort. The post is a bit of a hinderance but we think he will run well first time off the layoff. Top Seattle jockey Isaias Enriquez gets the mount.

October 21
The old warrior Jerry's Fever breezed an impressive 1:01 and 2/5ths yesterday at Golden gate which was 11th of 81 at the distance.

Assuming he comes out of the work well, hhe will make a return to the races in early November. It will be exciting to see this "honest" horse compete .

June 30
Jerry's Fever has been scratched from todays race at Pleasanton. The good news is he never had to leave his barn at Golden Gate prior to the decision. Some days are better than others for Jerry at this point in his carrer and we will give him a iittle time before trying again at Sacrmamento.

June 27
Jerry's Fever makes his return to the races in California in a 6 furlong sprint Sunday at Pleasanton. He drew post position 7 of 7 and will benefit from having top jockey Juan Hernandez aboard. Jerry has trained well for this one and should be competitive in this field. Welcome back Jerry. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Apr 26
Jerry's Fever finished in the money for the 16th time in 22 starts for an impressive 73% in the money percentage. Jarry worked two and three wide the whole trip and still chased turning for home and earned the place. We love Jerry and once again he gave us everything. He came out of the race well and will be shipped back to O.J. at Golden Gate as the Turf Paradise Meet draws to an end next week. A chart of the race can be found on above.

Mar 29
Jerry's Fever tries to make it two in a row Monday at Turf Paradise. Jerry drew post 8 of 8 with jockey Juan Ochoa returning to the saddle after winning on Jerry last time out. Jerry has been installed as 5-1 in the morning line. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Mar 29
Jerry's Fever was scratched from today's Starter Alloewance at Turf Paradise. He was shod two days ago and has not taken to his new shoes. We will target Jerry for the Starter Stakes on April 7. Gicen Jerry just ran (and won) two weeks ago this will work out fine, we were probably rushing him back a bit anyway.

Mar 25
Jerry's Fever has drawn post 7 of 7 for this Friday's Starter Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs at Turf Paradise. Jerry has been installed at 8-1 given little respect by the oddsmakers despite his recent win at a the shorter 5 furlongs distance. If Jerry can stay with the expected hot pace perhaps he will close well enough to be a factor as they enter the stretch. Paat Performances for the race can be found here.

Mar 15
Jerry's Fever "came from the clouds" to capture yesterday's low level claiming sprint at Turf Paradise. Jerry was dropped considerably to face this field and as a result went off an even money favorite. After falling back to 6th at the half mile post Jerry looked pretty much out of it before a late strong stretch drive over the last furlong layed waste to the field. We were pleased with Jerry's win and will look for another race or two for him at Turf Paradise prior to the season ending on May 7th. A chart of the race can be found above.

Mar 12
Jerry's Fever drew post position 2 of 8 for Friday's low level claimer at Turf Paradise. After a short series of less than stellar performances, we have dropped Jerry to a level we think he should be very competitive. Jockey Juan Ochoa gets the mount for the 5 furlong sprint. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Feb 04
Jerry's Fever couldn't overcome the trials of the week and finished a fading 7th in his first start at Turf Paradise. After the long trip to Phoenix he drew the outisde post which has resulted in only 5% winners on the Turf Paradise turf course this year. He raced well for the first 6 furlongs only to "step in hole" at which point he checked and was done for the race. He will come back at this level back on the dirt in 3 or 4 weeks time and we fully expect a much better performance. A chart of the race can be found above.

Feb 04
Jerry's Fever is meant to be vanning to Phoenix today. He has been entered to race at Turf Paradise in Fridays one mile allowance on the turf. Assuming he arrives well he should be very competitve and Trainer Silva has named leading jockey Giovanni Franco to ride. O.J. has Jerry in good shape after a nice breeze on Saturday. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Jan 28
Jerry's Fever breezed a smart 5 furlongs at Goldeng Gate Fields yesterday and is slated to take a van to Phoenix over the next few days. He will join the barn of top Turf Paradise trainer Miguel Silva and be pointed to an Allowance race on the turf in the early February.

Jan 6

Jerry's Fever took to the turf fairly well finishing 4th only three and 1/2 lengths behind the winner in his first turf race yesterday. Jerry was his usual steady self racing evenly for jockey Antongeorgi. Although picking up $1,740 for his efforts we need to place Jerry in races where he will be favoured or close to it. With this in mind, we are contemplating taking him down to Turf Paradise for an Allowance on the turf in early February. No final decisions as of yet. A chart of the race van be found above.

Jan 3

Jerry's Fever drew post position 6 of 9 for the One Mile Alowance on the Turf this Saturday. We talked about dropping Jerry to the claiming ranks but decided we would give him one shot on the turf and stretch him out to a mile. We have no idea if he will take to the turf but wanted to give him a try. He is training very well and fired the bullet of 25 going 4 furlongs last Satuday in a speedy 48 and 1/5th. Jerry has been assigned morning line odds of 10-1 and will have William Antongeorgi aboard. Lets hope Jerry kicks off the Highland Yard year with an in the money performance. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Dec 16

All good things must come to an end and so it was with Jerry's Fever's ten race in the money streak. Jerry finished a respectable 5th of a very tough field of ten to wrap up his and Highland Yard's racing for the year. Jerry will freshen for a few weeks and be back in mid to late January at a reduced competition level perhaps running for a tag in a high claiming race. We are likely to try Jerry on the turf and perhaps stretch him out to a mile in the new year. A chart of the race can be found above.

Dec 13
Jerry drew post position 3 in a very tough Allowance fixture at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday. Favorite Red Creme is allowed to race back at this condition as a Cal-bred despite winning this condition last time out by beating Jerry's Fever by two lengths. In addition, Morey sends out recent Starter Allowance winner "Toss the Dice" who has won his last two races by a combined 12 lengths and Hollendorfer sends two tough competitors. Jerry will have his hands full in continuing his in the money streak currently at ten straight races. Jockey Catalino Martinez retains the mount despite a troubled trip last time out, hopefully this race runs smoother for Jerry. Jerry is morning line 8-1 which is 5th favorite of the ten runners.

Past performances for the race can be found here.

Nov 24
Outrunning his odds yet again, Jerry's Fever closed well to pick up second place money in the $30,000 sprint on the main track at Golden Gate Fields. After a somewhat troubling trip where Jerry broke to the lead, was taken back 5th, rushed up at the 3/8ths pole to almost clip the horse ahead of him, and was taken back again, Jerry still had enough left for a solid stretch drive. This was Jerry's 10th straight in the money performance marking a consistent quality about him. He is very calm and professional in the paddock before his races and just goes out and does his job start after start. We will contemplate wether to stretch Jerry out to a mile next time out as he seems to be exhibiting the ability to go longer. A chart of the race can be found above.

Nov 21
Jerry's Fever has been installed as 6-1 in his second chance at this allowance level Friday after a third place finish last time out. Jerry has been in the money nine times in a row and we expect the same this time out. Jerry had a very good breeze last Sunday and galluped out impressively. Catalino Martinez returns to the saddle and should have plenty of speed to work with from the inside post. A stiff field of seven awaits but Jerry is use to outperforming his odds. We will have a good contingent of Highland Yard supporters at the race and hope Jerry can do it again. A nice $30,000 purse awaits the winner. For past performances click here.

Nov 4
Jerry's Fever did it again hitting the board for the 9th straight time as he passed horses down the stretch to grab third place in the Allowance at GGF yesterday. He always tries and yesterday was no exception as he overcame the step up in class and was sent off at 32-1. With the winner moving on, Jerry will be well positioned to try and get the Allowance win next time out. A chart of the race can be found above.

Nov 1
Jerry's Fever drew post 6 of 8 for his first test against the higher allowance group on Saturday at Golden Gate Fields. Highland Yard readies for a big day with two runners while hosting the Brain Tumor Walk raffle winners. Young Jockey Arnold Perez gets the mount in a salty field of solid runners. Jerry is a morning line long shot at 15/1 but has been training brilliantly and is seldom out of the money, perhaps a good place or show bet. Past Perfomances for the race can be found here.

Sep 20
Jerry's Fever finished in the money for the 8th race in a row but this time it was a victory at Fairplex in Pomona. After leading most of the way Jerry appeared to falter down the stretch, a story we have seen before. Jockey Hernandez got after him pretty good and he re-rallyed to claim the money and the picture. A nice says payday for Jerry raising her life-time earnings to over $70,000. Jerry will travel home tomorrow and get a short rest before finding him a good spot over the next 3 or 4 weeks. Thanks Jerry for getting the losing monkey off our back! A chart of the race can be found above.

Sep 19
Jerry's Fever has been installed as the 8/5 favorite in tomorrow's Starter Allowance at Pomona. A nice Purse of $26,000 is up for grabs. Here is hoping Jockey Juan Hernandez get get Highland Yard and Jerry off the schnide tomorrow!

Sep 17
Jerry's Fever finished third in last Sunday's Starter Allowance at GGF marking his 7th consecutive in the money performance. A decent return performance for Jerry who in usual fashion led half way through the race. The Winner's Circle has proven very elusive for Jwerry over the last year and he needs to have a break through race. He came out of the race well and has been re-entered at Pomona for this Thursday September 20th. A Chart of the race can be found on Jerry's Roster Page. Past Performances for Thursday's race can be found here.

Sep 6

Jerry's Fever drew a tough group of six for his return to the races this Sunday. He may well "need a race" after his extended layoff although he has been training well. Jerry has finished in the money 6 races in a row and we hope for the same from him this time out. One of the top Jockeys at GGF this meet, Alejandro Gomez gets the mount. Jerry has been installed as the 9/2 third choice and will break from post position 4. Past Performances for the race can be found here.

Sep 3

Jerry's Fever worked 4 furlongs in 49 2/5ths seconds yesterday in his final prep for his return to the races next Sunday at GGF. He may need a race after her seven month lay-off but we are hoping he gets alot out of this race conditioning wise. If he comes back close to his old self, he should win at this condition in the not to distant future. Entries go in Wednesday.

Jul 3

Sentimental favourite and perennial in the money gelding Jerry's Fever has been back in O.J.'s barn for the last couple of weeks getting back into the training regimen. Other than being gelded, Jerry has enjoyed his lengthy break from training and has a put on a few pounds. Jogging for the last two weeks has started to have an effect and he should begin breezing this weekend. If all were to go as planned, we should see Jerry in race condition in about eight weeks.

Jan 17

Jerry's Fever came back a little sore from his recent work. Nothing on the Xray but an ultrasound showed a slight tear to his suspensory ligament. Jerry will be on the shelf for four or five months as he receives shock treatment and a lay-off to Paradise Road Ranch. Bad news for Jerry and Highland Yard but nothing he shouldn't be able to come back from. After six straight in the money finishes we were hopeful Jerry would hit the Winners Circle this weekend but it wasn't meant to be.  We'll post as jerry begins to recuperate and hope to have him back with O.J. for late spring early summer.

Jan 17

Jerry's Fever finished 2nd in the 6 furlong Starter Allowance over the weekend getting caught in the stretch by Curly Boy. Jerry set the pace and held the lead for 5 furlongs and held off the co-leader through the stretch but was caught by a three wide Curly Boy. Jockey Baze said that Jerry held off the horse beside him and never saw the 3/4 length winner "or would have held him off too". A sixth straight in the money performance for Jerry got us close to the Winners Circle. Jerry has now been in the money a noteworthy 10 of his 13 races but has only won one race. We were pleased how he did first time going a mile anw will point him accordingly. A Chart the race can be found above.

Jan 14

Jerry's Fever is the morning line favorite for Mondays One Mile Allowance at GGF. This will be Jerry's first time racing two-turns but he has been training well and has been in the money four straight races. Jockey Russell Baze aboard won't hurt and we hope Jerry can relax early and have enough left at the end to get his picture taken. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Jan 01

In prep for his first one mile start on January 16th, Jerry's Fever worked 7 furlongs in 1:29 3/5ths which was 4 of 5 at the distance yesterday.

He tired over the last couple of furlongs and should have gotten alot out of this long work. Russell Baze will ride Jerry in his first route start.

Nov 25

Jerry's Fever finished on the money for the 5th race in a row in the 6 furlong allowance at GGF. Jerry set the pace in a sizzling 22 seconds spelling trouble down the stretch. The race went in 1:10.18 seconds the fastest 6 furlong time of the meet. This horse is very fast but does not rate himself well at all. We will try something counter-intuitive for Jerry and try him over a mile next time out without blinkers. The idea being to flatten him out and not burn himself out in the first half of the race. It is a testament to his ability he continues to finish in the money despite ripping off ridiculous fractions. Jerry is a gamer and will come back and win. All-in-all another good day for him and a cheque for $2,360. A chart of the race can be found above.

Nov 21

Jerry's Fever has drawn Post Position 6 of 8 for Thursday's 7th race at GGF. Jerry's morning line odds have been set at 5/2 for second favoritism and he should be flying from the gate as usual in the 6 furlong sprint. After knocking at the door with three consecutive in the money finishes we are hopeful Jerry can hit the winners circle and break what has become a long drought for Highland Yard. Leading Jockey and Hall of Famer Russell Baze gets the mount. We will be joined by a contingent of close relatives from Toronto for the races and look forward to a great afternoon. C'mon Jerry get it done! Past Performances for the race can be found here.

Nov 3

Another race, another in the money finish for Jerry. Jerry finished 2nd in the Starter Allowance today at GGF. The 2 to 1 second choice Jerry set the pace, leading throughout the race to the final 1/8th where he was overtaken by the flying favorite Red Creme. Dissapointing to be sure but the reality is the race set up perfectly for the off the pace winner. There is nothing to do but reload at the same condition next time out which, if Jerry comes out of the race fine, will be Thankgiving Thursday, November 24th. Jerry banked $3,600 for his efforts today. A chart of the race can be found above.

Oct 29
Jerry fired the 4 furlong bullet this morning breezing that distance in a very fast 46 and 2/5ths seconds. The work was fastest of 40 at that distance. Jerry will be very salty on Thursday and has every chance to challenge "Red Creme" in that race for the picture.

Oct 28
Jerry's Fever has drawn post position 3 of 6 for next Thursday's Allowance race at GGF. Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze is slated to ride and rode Jerry to his only victory one year ago. Jerry has beaten three of these horses before and fits in well here. There is alot of early speed in the race, including Jerry, and having Baze aboard should help put Jerry in the best possible position. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Oct 23

Jerry's Fever worked a very strong 4 furlongs in 48 seconds flat on Saturday which was 8th of 94 at that distance. Russell Baze has agreed to ride Jerry in the Starter Allowance on November 3rd. He should be very competitive in that race. Jerry will have a maintenance breeze next weekend and should be ready to go.

Oct 18

Jerry's fever worked 5 furlongs in 1.02 flat which was 27th of 91 at that distance last Saturday. We had considered routing jerry up to one mile next time out but have found what should be a good spot for him going 6 furlongs in Starter Allowance Thursday, November 3rd. This is the same level Jerry has raced the last two times out and the winners of those races are no longer eligible. Jerry finished 3rd in both those races and should be one of the favorites next time out. We are hopeful Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze who rode Jerry to victory last October will take the mount.

Oct 3

Jerry finished in the money for the third race in a row running a steady pace to finish 3rd, 4 lengths behind Green Cat. As usual Jerry broke very alertly and was positioned 2nd outside of Mathew L.  Jerry fought the whole way but eventually ceded to the winner and 2nd place horse in the stretch. Jerry has a good cruising speed but not a devestating finishing kick, for this reason we will extend him to a mile from 6 furlongs next time out. Generally pleased with Jerry who gives it his all each time out and has now finished in the money in seven of his ten career starts. A chart of the race can be found above.

Sep 30

Jerry drew post position 9 of 11 for the $16,000 Allownace Race at GGF on Sunday. Giovanni Franco gets the return mount after finishing in the money on Jerry last time out. We should be competitive here and O.J. believes Jerry will run better than last time out when he missed second by a short nose. Past performacnes for the race can be found here.

Sep 12

Jerry finished 3rd of 10 in the Allowance race at GGF, missing second by a short nose. Jerry broke and ran well tiring slightly down the stretch against a fast pace. The winner and second place horses were longshots. A decent pay check for Jerry and his second in the money placing in a row. We will see how he came out of the race and point him accordingly. A chart of the race can be found above.

Sep 08

Jerry drew post position 7 of 11 for Sunday's Starter Allowance at GGF. We would have hoped for a smaller field but you get what you draw.

Looks like an evenly matched field with no prohibitive favourites. Jerry trained 3 of 14 going a sharp 3 furlongs last week and should fit in very well with this group. Russell Baze was slated to ride but rec'd a two day suspension and thus we had to go find another jockey.  Geovanni Franco who has ridden well since joining the GGF jockey colony gets the mount. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Jul 21

Jerry bounced back from a couple of weak performances after his break to race well and claim 3rd in a tough Opening Day Del Mar field.

Challenging right from the start Jerry was a close second heading for home. It appered Jockey Baze may have been a little suprised by Mentidosa coming from the extreme outside to win pulling away down the stretch. Jerry was held tightly through the early part of the race a strategy we will ikely change next time out. A great day at Del Mar and a $3,480 check for Jerry. Jerry garnered a cut on his foreleg during the race was stitched up by the Doc and should misss very little if any training. We will bring Jerry back tothe Bay area over the next few days where he will nowe be eligible for Starter Allowance races by virtue of him running for a tag. A chart of the race can be found above.

Jul 16

Jerry drew Post Position 5 of 11 for the $25K claimer at Del Mar's Opening Day. Opening Day at Delmar is one of the very special days for racing in North America with 40,000 people expected. The field is relatively tough for a race of this calibre as everyone wants to enter and win at Del Mar particularly on opening day. Jerry certainly looks competitve in here and return to his form of last fall would put him in the winners circle. The race is the 6th of the day and slated to go off at 4:30 pm pst. The race can be watched on calracing.com.

Past performaces for the race can be found here.

Jun 25

Jerry finished a disappointing 6th in a tough field of Allowance colts at Pleasanton. He broke well moved in to early contention but was out compteted at every calling fading to 6th. We will have to evaluate Jerry and perhaps drop him in class to try and find a winning spot for him. This does not seem to be the same horse that came second in the Golden Nugget last November. A chart of the race can be found above.

Jun 22

Jerry drew a tough field of eight for Fridays Allowance fixture at Pleasanton. Jerry will break from post position 3 with Bill Antongeorgi aboard. We look forward to a much improved run. Post time is 4:15pm pst and can be watched live on calracing.com. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Jun 19

Jerry breezed 5 furlongs Friday in one minute and 4/5ths seconds which was 3rd of 17 at that distance. He has been entered for Friday's Allowancve race going 6 furlongs at Pleasanton. We expect a much better trip for Jerry given he has trained well and in better shape than two weeks ago when he ran his first time back after a long lay off. The field of eight looks tough with 4 returnees from that race all of which finished ahead of Jerry and an L.A. shipper. We expect a better outcome and as usual we expect Jerry will be fighting down the stretch. Jockey Bill Antongeorgi gets the call. Past performances will be posted Thursday.

Jun 05

Jerry ran 6th yesterday against a tough allowance field at GGF. We thought Jerry would need the race as he returned to the races for the first time in six months. We were pleased that he vied and fought hard until he ran our of gas at the quarter poll. He was third after running a three wide trip all the way to the half mile poll. Jockey Romero galluped out Jerry an additional 1/2 mile after the race to get even more of a work into hom. O.J. thinks Jerry will be poised to win next time out likely at Pleasanton in 3 or 4 weeks time.

May 31
We entered Jerry's Fever for the 6 furlong Allowance going next Saturday June 4th at Golden Gate Fields. The race filled much stronger than we expected. Although only 7 horses entered the quality is unbelievable with two Southern California Invaders including multiple Graded Stakes placed "Western Mood" who came third in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes and 5th in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity . Western Mood, like Jerry, is coming off a long lay off. No fewer than 4 of the horses entered have posted bullet or second place works in recent weeks. Jerry will be in very tough here especially his first race back. We think he will "need a race" but have decided not to scratch him out of the race in the hope he will gain from the experience. It will be interesting to see how he does with Blinkers and we are very excited to see him back at the races.
Past Performances for the race can be found here.

May 31
Jerry's Fever had a better breeze going 5 panels in 1:01 and 3/5ths seconds on Friday morning which was 8th of 34 at that distance. Although alot better than his previous breeze he was still a little cantankerous down the lane and even took a nip at jockey Romero. We will try Jerry with blinkers on for his next start in the hopes he will focus.

May 22

Jerry worked 6 furlongs today and it wasn't pretty. He was moving very well until the 1/4 pole where he inexplicably pulled up to lumber out the 6 furlongs in 1:17 and 4/5ths seconds which was 17th of 20 at that distance. We had him scoped after the breeze and found some mucous but no bleeding or anything wrong with her the vet could determine. We are chalking it up to a bad day for now but not the most encouraging breeze only two weeks away form her expected start after 6 months away from the races. Hmmm ..

May 16

Another solid work for Jerry this time going 5/8ths of a mile in a brisk One Minute and 2/5ths of a second which was 6th of 57 at the distance. He continues to gain fitness for an expected mid-June 2011 debut.

May 09

Jerry worked a strong 5 furlongs in 1:01 at GGF Sunday morning with a contingent of "Emily's Tumor Tamer's" cheering him on. The work was 14th of 75 at the distance. We are only weeks away from getting our stakes placed colt back to the starting gate and if this work is any indication he will be ready.

Apr 14

Jerry is back and in training. He has put on a few pounds whilst lazing around the farm but other than that looks great. He has been galluping for a few weeks now and had his first breeze last Saturday. Jerry went 3 furlongs in 37 4/5ths with the intention of going real slow. He will start a progressive series of breezes with the intention to be back to the races in early June. We are very excited to have our stakes placed colt back and look forward to a fun and productive summer for Jerry.

Feb 23

Jerry's Fever is coming back from Paradise Road Ranch tomorrow to go back in training at Golden Gate Fields. It has been exactly two months off for Jerry and time to get back in racing shape for the spring. By all acounts he looks great although a little ragged with a full winters coat. He has an appointment with the barber on the weekend and will look like his "Stakes Placed" self in no time. We hope to have him back to the track in six weeks or so. Welcome back Jerry!

Dec 31

Jerry came off the training track last week a little soar in the back. We had a full set of x-rays done and found nothing. Having said that we have decided to send Jerry to Paradise Road Ranch for a well deserved couple of months off. Jerry had a busy and positive 2-Year Old compaign breaking his maiden at the end of October and placing in the Golden Nugget Stakes. The expectation is that he will come back a better race horse in time for the spring summer season. Dissapointing for sure but part of the game. Get well and sound Jerry!

Dec 11

Jerry breezed a maintenance 1/2 mile in 49 4/5ths today at Golden Gate fields. The breeze was 26th of 47 at that distance. Hector Romero worked Jerry alone with instructions not to push him but rather a solid leg stretcher. He looked great and will be ready to fire next time out.

We are pointing Jerry to a 6 furlong Allowance race at Golden gate on January 8th for a purse of $29,000. Given Jerry's performance in the Golden Nugget he will likley be one of the favorites. Although nothing is set in stone, we anticipate Hector Romero will get the mount. We are hopeful this race will kick off a strong 3 year old campaign for Jerry.

Nov 20

Jerry finished an impressive 2nd in the $50,000 Golden Nugget Stakes. Jerry is now the first Stakes placed runner for Highland Yards and we are thrilled. Going off as the longshot on the board Jerry ran a stalking trip behind favorite McKenzies Way and eventual winner Cathy's Crunch. The race went in a very fast 1:09 and change and Jerry was in it until the last furlong. Jerry's morning rider Hector Romero had the mount and was very pleased for the opportunity. We beat the favorite who Russell Baze was riding after riding Jerry last time out.

We will sit back and figure whats next for our Stakes placed two year old!

Nov 19

Were in. Jerry drew post position one of six starters in the Golden Nugget. Jerrry is picked 3rd by the Daily Racing Form and 4th in the morning line. We have selected Hector Romero to ride. Hector works both Indy and Jerry in the mornings and is thrilled with the opportunity. Russell Baze chose to ride favorite McKenzies Way. It is raining today in the Bay Area and we expect an off track for tomorrows race. There is lot of early speed in the race including Jerry so we have asked Hector to try and position himself well out of the gate. Jerry has broken from the gate very well as of late and we look to be involved early. Daily Racing Form review of the Golden Nugget (Race 3) can be found here. DRF of Golden Nugget Stakes

Nov 14

We have nominated Jerry for the $50,000, 6 furlong Golden Nugget Stakes at GGF for next Saturday November 20th. This race did not go on its originally scheduled date of Nov 13 for lack of entries. We did not enter for the race given Jerry had raced on October 31st and O.J. felt 13 days was to short of a lay off between races. Given the race has been rescheduled for November 20th we may enter Jerry for the race on Wednesday. This will be a challenging race for Jerry at the Stakes level but given his recent winning performance we don't think he will be outclassed.

Oct 31

Jerry Wins! A great weekend for Highland Yard to be sure as Jerry Fever became the second stable runner to break his maiden this weekend. Jerry's win was as convincing as Northern Indys' on Thursday. As usual Jerry broke tremednously and had a jump on the field right out of his post position six. He sat on the outside shoulder of Steppinginthelight for the first furlong or so and then gradually creeped away from him and the eight other starters in the six furlong race. Jerry increased his lead at every calling and finished four lengths ahead of Grady's Smile. Jockey Baze thinks that Jerry could strech out for a mile infuture contests but for today we are just soaking in his, and Indy's, excellent performances.

View the race chart above.

Oct 29

The Daily Racing Form has picked Jerry's Fever 2nd of 11 for Sunday's race. The only negative seems to be his two month lay off which is easily explained by the cough he had a few weeks back. We are confident going into this race and expect a "treat" on Halloween Day.

Daily Racing Form Picks Jerry 2nd

Oct 22

Jerry's Fever fired a bullet breeze today going 4 furlongs in 47 and 4/5ths, fastest of the 21 horses breezing that distance. This will be Jerry's final work prior to the 6 furlong race going on Sunday October 31st. We enter for that race on the 28th. Hopefully a big weekend for Highland Yard.

Oct 21

We will enter Jerry's Fever for the 6 furlong MSW at GGF for Sunday October 31 and expect a "treat" when Jerry runs that day. That race is likely to fill and we will post the entries next week when available.

Oct 14

The MSW race at Fresno did not fill. We are now pointing to a 6 fulrong MSW at GGF on October 31. It is frustrating to have Jerry ready to run and not have the race go.

Oct 13

Jerry's Fever worked 4 furlongs in 47 and 3/5 seconds, 3 of 32 at that distance today at GGF. Jerry's cough has subsided and assuming he comes out of the breeze fine, we are all systems got to run in the 6 furlong $25,000 MSW at the Fresno Fair on Sunday. Hall of Fame Jockey Russell Baze has agreed to ride Jerry on Sunday. This should be our best chance yet to get the Highland Yard silks in the winners circle. We will post the past program after the entries on Friday.

Oct 05

Jerry and Indy have both come down with a virus. A number of horses at GGF have the virus and about half of those in O.J.'s barn. Although very dissapointing, the colts have only mild fevers and a bit of a cough. The vet likened the situation to that at an Elementary school when the season changes. Both colts have been treated and this should only be a minor setback. Jerry is already coming out of it and jogged today. Indy has just caught the virus and is resting in his stall.

Jerry seems to be getting back on track and if he continues to improve we will target a $25,000 MSW at the Fresno Fair on Sunday October 17th.

Sep 12
Jerry worked 1/2 mile in 48 2/5 ths seconds today which was 12 fastest of 100. This was a routine breeze in preparation for his upcoming race on October 3rd.

Sep 7
We are pointing Jerry to a 5 1/2 furlong MSW at Golden Gate fields on October 3rd. Given Jerry has been in the money twice at this class we are hopeful he will break his maiden this time out.

Aug 29
Jerry's Fever broke well but got caught in a front end speed dual chasing Pray to Win in a lightening fast 22 second first quarter. Predictably, there was little left in the tank for Jerry when the favorite McCovey Cove and Baze ridden and eventual winner Wealthy Aviator came at him late. Luckily Jerry had enough to finish up 3rd and pocket $3,000 for his efforts. O.J. thought perhaps Jockey Hernandez could have left Jerry a bit more off the pace rather than get caught in the rigorous first quarter but it was a learning experience for all. Jerry seems to have come out of the race in excellent condition and will train lightly prior to his next start in 4 or 5 weeks time.

Aug 27
Jerry drew post 10 of 11 for Sundays 7th race at Golden Gate Fields
This $25,000 6 furlong MSW for 2 Year Olds is set to go off at 3:45PM

Given Jerry is not an early speed horse we are not disappointed with the outside post as Jockey Hernandez hopefully will be able to relax Jerry early in the race.
Going through the past performances we expect Jerry will be a slight favorite in the race but can expect strong competition from McCovey Cove from the 5 hole who came third four lengths behind Jerry last time out but now has a race under his belt. This horse has trained exceptionally well in recent weeks. Wealthy Aviator with Russell Baze aboard from the 11 hole will likely challenge as well.

In an eleven horse race for two year olds with eight first time starters anything can happen but we like our chances in this group.

Aug 18
Jerry's Fever was given this week off from breezing and will breeze next Saturday one more time prior to the race on August 29. we are excited for Jerry's race given what he showed us last time out at Santa Rosa.Perhaps Highland Yard's first photo in the winners circle?

Aug 4
Jerry improved in his second outing rallying from 6th at the 1/2 mile poll to finish second by a neck in a $25,000 MSW at Santa Rosa. The jockey for Jerry's first race decided to ride another horse in this race and we went with young jockey Juan Henrandez who has had a great meet at Santa Rosa and kept Jerry out of trouble and in good position to strike down the stretch. Another half furlong and it looked like Jerry would have broken his maiden. We must now decide wether to run Jerry back in two weeks at a stakes race in Santa Rosa for a larger purse, or wait for another MSW at Golden Gate in early September. The decision will be determined by how Jerry comes out of this last race and how he is training by early next week. An exciting day for all and pleased good friends and family joined us for the beautiful Sunday at the Fair. Jerry won $5,100 for his efforts. Jockey Hernardez said Jerry ran "green" and tired a bit near the end leaving us hopeful there is still a lot of untapped potential.

July 26
Jerry worked 5 furlongs in one minute flat on Saturday morning which was 3 of 40 at the distance. We are hopeful Jerry will have a much better outing on Sunday than his first trip.
He has trained well subsequent to his start at Pleasanton and should have a better understanding of what to expect in this his second trip. We will post the past performances on Friday.
The race can be watched live on Calracing.com. The race is slated to be the 6th race which should go off around 3:15 pm pst on Sunday. Jockey Michael Martinez is again slated to ride.

July 11
Jerry's Fever is slated to make his second career start at Santa Rosa in a $25,000 MSW for 2 year olds going 6 furlongs on Sunday August 1st. We are hopeful Jerry will acquit himself well after his 6th place finish at Pleasanton.

June 29
Jerry's Fever runs disappointing 6th at Pleasanton. Jerry broke well but was shuffled back early by Michale Martinez who wanted to rate him a bit. Accoring to Michael Jerry did not like the dirt coming up into his face and balked a few times during the race when this took place/ According to O.J. Jerry didn't take to the dirt as well as he has been running on the synthetic surface at Golden Gate. Although disappointed, O.J. says he hasn't lost any faith with Jerry and that he will be fine. It is unlikely Jerry will run again at the Pleasanton meet as we don't want to run back the 2 year olds to quickly. We will look for a spot for Jerry in four weeks or so, perhaps at Delmar.

June 23
We plan on entering Jerry's Fever in a two-year old $25,000 MSW (Maiden Special Weight) Race on Sunday at the Pleasanton Fair.
We are very excited to finally have our first runner for Highland Yard. Jerry has done everything asked of him and has worked progressively 2, 3, 4 and most recently the very strong 5 furlongs on June 19th.
O.J. says he "is ready" and was not particularly tired after the most recent breeze. It will be very interesting to see how many two-year olds will be entered and what we will be up against. Top trainer Jerry Hollendorfer usually has a couple of heady two-year olds in the barn we will have to face sooner or later. We look forward to a strong perfromance by Jerry.

June 19
Jerry worked 5 furlongs at Golden Gate Park in 59 4/5 seconds. This was the second fastest work of 43 at Golden Gate today and the fastest by a 2 year old.
Jockey Michael Martinez who worked Jerry said that he rated well until coming up to 3 horses working in front of him ...... Jerry took off and passed them.
We have some speed here and are very excited Jerry will be our first ever runner to wear the Blue Gryphon of Highland Yard.
