A Kings LifeGo Papi Go
Three Year Old Chestnut Colt

O.J. Jauregui Racing Stable and Highland Yard, LLC bought this Officer Colt in partnership at the Barretts Yearling Sale last October. Officer was a Grade 1 winning race horse and has sired 20 Black Type winners. Go Papi Go is out of the Red Ransom mare Search Mission who won in England as a two-year old. This purchase relied totally on O.J.’s sense that the colt was well put together and we got him for a great price.

“Papi” was broken at Running Horse Equine and was shipped to O.J. in March for an early start to his racing career.

News

Jul 22
We are pleased to announce Go Papi Go has been accepted for retraining and adoption at Whispering meadows Ranch in Temecula, California. Sigrid Lunde and her staff do  great job for these lovely animals once retired from racing. Highland Yard is a proud financial supporter of Whispering Meadows Equine. Other than a bowed tendon which would make a return to the race track questionable Go papi Go looked great when we saw her last week with a glowing coat and a lovely disposition. We certainly wish him well.

Dec 5
The hits keep coming this year for Highland Yard runners. This latest bad news is that Go Papi Go has an inflamed tendon. After a solid breeze at Turf Paradise he came back sore and was scratched from last weeks race. We will look at options for Go Papi who hasbeen a nice runner from humble beginnings.

Nov 4
The Starter at Golden Gate Fields has had a hard time getting good two year old races to go. This combined with Go Papi's recent stellar performance in Fresno on the dirt rather the synthetic surface at Golden Gate has led us to move Go Papi to Turf Paradise for the winter meet. Go Papi will be sent down over the next few days and will likely get a start at Turf Paradise over the next couple of weeks

Oct 11

Go Papi Go destroyed the field of two year olds at the Fresno Fair today winning the 6 furlong sprint by an expanding 8 lengths. Couton positioned Papi nicely behind the speed ball Bishop Amat and moved steadily to overtake him at the 3/8ths pole. Under gentle urging from Couton, Papi built on his lead down the stretch winning comfortably. A great win for O.J. and Highland Yard. We will look for a good spot for Go Papi Go back at Golden Gate in a few weeks time. A chart of the race can be found above.

Oct 10

Go Papi Go has been installed as morning line 5/2 favorite in tomorrow's $16k claimer at Fresno. It is a very competitive field and any of four horses could win. Jockey Couton gets the mount from gate 5 of 6 in the race. Past performances for the race can be found here.

Sept 17

Go Papi Go was a beaten favorite at Golden Gate in his first run in the claiming ranks. A dissapointing performance to lose as favorite and one that has happened to often in recent Highland Yard races. He ran okay but it wasn't good enough to win. A chart of the race can be found above.

July 9

Go Papi Go ran a green race bouncing around a couple of times and lugging in after being checked at the 3/16th pole yesteray at Pleasanton. He has lots of room to improve. We will drop him down a notch next time out and perhaps lengthen him out over two turns as he seemed to come on a bit near the end of yesterdays race. A chart of the race can be found above.

July 7

Go Papi Go with Christobal Herrera aboard drew Post 8 of 10 for tomorrows $50,000 Alameda County Stakes at Pleasanton. Papi has been installed as 10-1 in the race and will need to run his best to be competitive here. Past performacnes for the race can be found here.

July 3

O.J. and I have agreed to give Go Papi Go another chance at the Stakes level despite a poor showing last time out. I am of the view we should drop him to claiming but given there is nothing in the condition books until more two year old maiden races are run, there is littel loss in giving him one more shot. As a result, he has been nominated for this weekends Alameda County Stakes with entries due Thursday.

June 18

Go Papi Go finished a dissapointing 6th in the Lost in The Fog Saturday at GGF. Jockey Gryder hustled Papi up after a slow break to claim the rail just off the front runners. He tracked there and appeared in good position as they turned for home. Papi ran green down the stretch refusing to switch leads and looking a bit scared of splitting horses to go the to the front. It is possible he just wasn't enough for this group but hopefully he will learn from this race. Papi will have a good long rest and wait for a MSW or high two year old claimer late in mid-summer. A chart of the race can be found above.

June 16

Go Papi Go drew the post two of nine for today's Lost in the Fog Stakes at GGF. This is the same post Papi won from last time out. Papi has been working very well including a 9 of 96 four furlong breeze last weekend in 48 seconds flat. Papi has been installed as second favorite after the other Maiden Special Weight Winner Native Treasure, speedy first time starter filly Pearl Seeker with Russell Baze in the irons is also dangerous. It should be a great stakes race for these young two year olds and we are hopeful Aaron Gryder can get Papi there first and O. J. Jauregui Racing Stable and Highland Yard can claim the trophy. Past Performances for the race can be found here.

We are looking forward to a fun day with a full contingent of Highland Yarders in attendance!

May 12

Go Papi Go broke his maiden in fine fashion yesterday defeating a group of two year olds handily. Papi led from the break but was shoulder to shoulder with Red Deputy to mid- stretch where Papi pulled away smartly to score by 4 1/2 lengths. Given the additional Cal Bred bonus available for the race Papi banked $22k for the win, a fine return on a $4,200 purchase! Highland Yard and partner Jauregui racing are thrilled with the win and what may be ahead for this son of Officer. Papi will get a well deserved rest for a five or six weeks while we await other winners to emerge from this two year old crop to race against. We are trying not to look to far ahead with this colt but certainly have one eye on the Barretts Juvenile Stakes, a race available only to Cal Breds who were sold at the Barretts sale. For now we will sit back and enjoy the win. A chart of the race can be found above.

May 10

Go Papi Go has been installed as the favorite in tomorrows 4 furlong maiden special weight at GGF. The large purse combined with the California breeders bonus which Papi is eligible for as a Cal bred means the chance at a big check if Papi can pull it off tomorrow. GGF second leading rider Aaron Gryder gets the mount from the 3 hole of 8. Past Performances for the race can be found here.

Apr 6

Go Papi Go finished 2nd in today's maiden special weight or GGF. The two-furlong sprint was won in a track record time. This bodes well for our colt going forward. Go Papi will race back in one months time.
